Northstowe Community Cinema returns for two screenings on Saturday 24th February: 3pm for a family film, and 6pm with a film for older audiences.

3pm Family Film Shortlist

ELEMENTAL

In Element City, residents of Fire, Water, Earth and Air live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. 

The little mermaid

The beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

Wish

An animated musical-comedy welcoming audiences to the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

Shortlist for 6pm film for older audiences

barbie

Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colourful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.

dirty dancing

One of the most iconic romantic films in cinematic history, Dirty Dancing tells the story of Frances "Baby" Houseman, a young woman who falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle at a holiday resort.

past lives

Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are torn apart after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea. Two decades later, they are reunited in New York for one fateful week as they confront notions of destiny, love, and the choices that make a life, in this heart-rending modern romance.

the last bus

Tom (Timothy Spall), whose wife has just passed away, uses only local buses on a nostalgic trip to carry her ashes all the way across the UK from John O'Groats to Land's End, where they originally met, using his free bus pass. Unbeknownst to Tom, his journey begins to capture the imagination of the local people that he comes across and, ultimately, becomes a nationwide story.
